21 May 2013:World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development
World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was observed on 21 May 2013. The day is observed every year to raise awareness about the importance of intercultural dialogue, diversity and inclusion. The day provides an opportunity to learn to live together in harmony.
The theme this year is, Do one thing for diversity and inclusion. The day was adopted in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the US, which claimed around 3000 lives. UNESCO adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity in 2001, and in December 2002, the UN General Assembly declared 21 May as the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
