These days, one may find a strange "Click here" trend on the social media platform X, that was formerly Twitter. While many do not know much about the trend, it is not a new one. Yes, the trend came up last year as well and vanished. This time too, the trend is back. What exactly is the "Click Here" trend on platform X? Why is the trend being frowned at? Understanding the "Click Here" Trend

The Click Here Trend appear like white rectangular photos with a black text on it saying "Click here", with an arrow pointing at the left bottom corner of the image. Once you click on the photo as prompted by the text, you will find a tiny box appearing with "ALT" being written on it. On clicking this box, a text box will appear.

Many X Accounts like that of the BJP, Congress, and AAM have been following the trend.

In the "Click here" image by BJP, a user may find the Lok Sabha election slogan of the party, "Phir ek baar Modi sarkaar" written after clicking on the prompt. Many accounts on the platform have made use of the trend to make jokes and memes. Additionally, the trend has also been used by many organizations and brands to spread their slogans and taglines.

An ALT box can be accompanied by the photos of the users quite easily. Users are free to add whatever text they wish to.

Understanding the ALT Text

According to the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, “You can add a description, sometimes called alt-text, to your photos so they’re accessible to even more people, including people who are blind or have low vision. Good descriptions are concise, but present what’s in your photos accurately enough to understand their context.”

Why is the "Click here" trend attracting criticism?

Many huge brands like Red Bull and McDonald's are making the most of the "Click here" trend/ Now, while the trend was introduced to help people with visual impairment, the usage of the trend is not done appropriately to serve the purpose. For instance, while sharing a picture, in case the text is not used as a description of the picture rather as a joke, such a scenario can lead to further confusion among the visually impaired rather than helping them. Since the usage of the trend deviates from its original purpose, the trend is gaining criticism from all corners.
