Punjab: Literacy Rate as per Census 2011

    Punjab’s literacy rate has witnessed aloft tendency and it was 75.84 % as per Census 2011. The male literacy rate was 80.44 % however the female literacy was 70.73 %.  


    In 2011, the total number of literates in Punjab stood at 18,707,137 out of which the males were 10,436,056 however the females were 8,271,081.  


    Rural literacy rate of Punjab as per Census 2011 was 71.42%. The total number of rural Literates was 10,997,657. Out of which the females were 4,838,850 and males were 6,158,807.The literacy rate of rural males was 76.62 % and that of rural females was 65.74 %.  


    Total number of urban literates in Punjab was 7,709,480 out of which males were 4,277,249 and females were 3,432,231. The urban literacy rate of Punjab as per 2011 census stood at 83.18%. The literacy rate of urban males was 86.67 % and that of urban females was 79.21 %.
