Through this article, let’s pause to reflect on the incredible opportunities and potential risks the digital world presents. While we connect, learn, and explore online, here are some key points to remember:
Tips To Be Safe In The Era Of AI Technology
AI is ruling over almost all sectors, with the industry expected to grow at least 30% each year for the next decade. According to reports, 52% of Americans are more concerned than excited about AI in daily life. Only 10% of people said they were more excited than concerned. Meanwhile, 36% feel a mix of excitement and concern. McAfee Labs, itself thwarts 1.5 million in-field AI detections of threats (malicious sites and files) every week. That’s 8,928 malicious every hour and 149 every minute. 7 important pro-tips for safer internet usage are:
- Think twice before posting personal information or engaging in risky online behaviour.
- Verify information before sharing it and be cautious of unsolicited offers.
- AI tools can store inputted information on their servers for several days. When experimenting or using AI tools, never input Personal Identification Information (PII) into AI chatbots such as ChatGPT.
- The AI tool you are using is only as accurate as the data it uses. If the data it uses is old or incomplete, the content it churns out will be biased, inaccurate, or outright wrong. So, do not rely on AI for accuracy.
- To reduce the risk of cybercrime and data breaches when using Chatbots such as ChatGPT, turn off the chat saving function.
- Use strong passwords, be cautious about public Wi-Fi, and adjust your privacy settings on social media.
- Learn about online safety tools and resources to stay informed and protected.
Safe Internet Day is a path towards a secure and respectful online world. As the threats and risks around the digital arena are increasing, the responsibility to promote internet safety becomes important. With awareness, practising responsible online behaviour and embracing robust cybersecurity measures to create and develop a safer cyberspace.
