Devdutt Padikkal is an Indian international cricketer, born on July 7, 2000, in Edappal, Kerala. He plays as a left-handed top-order batsman and represents Karnataka in domestic cricket as well as the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Early Life and Education
Padikkal’s family shifted from Hyderabad to Bangalore in 2011 and started his cricket practice at the Karnataka Institute of Cricket. Beginning in 2014 he also played for Karnataka’s under-16 and under-19 teams and he also pursued his Bachelors in Business Administration at St Josephs University of Business Management Bangalore.
Domestic Career
He played his first-class cricket for Karnataka during the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy and was later bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during IPL 2019 auction. Padikkal played his first season with a lot of success, he scored 473 runs and won the Emerging Player Award. He also created the record of most fifty in IPL by taking three fifties in four matches.
International Career
Padikkal represented India in his first international game during T20I against Sri Lanka on 28th July 2021. He has also represented the India A team as well as the under-19 cricket team. In March 2024, he was selected as the part of Indian team in the Test and thus he made his Test debut on 7 March 2024 where he made 65 in his first innings.
IPL Career
After his successful tenure with RCB, Padikkal was bought by the Rajasthan Royals in 2022, where he continued to excel, including scoring his maiden IPL century. In November 2023, he was traded to the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the 2024 IPL season.
