AIIMS Rishikesh expels 6 students for vandalising shop and damaging vehicles

Some medical students from AIIMS Rishikesh have been rusticated for reported activities of vandalising the shops and thrashing the owner. They also destroyed the vehicles that were parked outside the shop. As per the PTI reports, about  6 students have been expelled due to their reckless behavior under the influence of alcohol. As per the complaint filed at Rishikesh Kotwali on Tuesday, 70-80 students of the premier institute vandalised a shop on the Veerabhadra Road on Monday night. In a drunkard state, they also assaulted the shop owner and damaged vehicles parked outside the store, Kotwali SHO Ritesh Kumar Shah stated. The medical students were allegedly in an intoxicated state at the time of the incident, the SHO said.

According to the news, two students of the institute were detained for interrogation and the CCTV footage was being examined, he claimed. Dean Surekha Kumar has told the sources that the AIIMS administration has rusticated six students for eroding the institute's prestige.

As per the information on the official website of AIIMS Rishikesh,  the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2012, was passed in the Lok Sabha on August 30, 2012, and in Rajya Sabha on September 4, 2012. This Act enabled the Rishikesh AIIMS to be an autonomous body on the lines of the existing AIIMS, Delhi.
