The Central Board of Secondary Education has agreed to retain the ‘pass’ results of Class 12 irrespective of their performance in the improvement exams conducted in August 2021. The decision was made after the Supreme Court urged the CBSE board to reconsider the decision to take the marks obtained in the class 12 improvement exams in which the students were declared as ‘failed’ as per the CBSE Assessment Criteria.
The Supreme Court bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and CT Ravikumar stated that the students are only seeking retention of their original marks as the admissions taken by them will be affected if the improvement scores are considered.
CBSE Improvement Exam Details
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the CBSE had come up with alternate assessment criteria last year to evaluate the Class 10 and 12 students. The board conducted compartment and improvement exams for the class 10 and 12 students from august 28 to September 8, 2021, for those students who were not satisfied with the new assessment criteria. Along with the regular students, private candidates who failed class 10 and 12 exams and applied for the improvement in 2021 and 2020 and the private special case students also appeared for the compartment exams conducted in 2021.
As per a recent notification, the CBSE announced that the students who appeared in Class 10 and 12 CBSE board exams in 2020 and could not clear the compartment exams will also be allowed to appear as private candidates for the compartment exams along with the class 10 and 12 students in 2022.
