Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice-Chancellor has made an appeal to all the university alumni to come forward and make a contribution to the ‘JNU Alumni Endowment Fund’ which on Tuesday was approved by the JNU Executive Council. A target of Rs. 100 Crore has been set by the university to be collected by the end of this year in order to achieve a degree of financial self-sufficiency for the university.
JNU Vice-Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar in a statement mentioned that higher educational institutions around the world benefit from the contributions received from its alumni and the time have come for the alumni of JNU from around the world to contribute to the JNU alumni Endowment Fund. The VC also added that the alumni from JNU will agree that the university has made a significant difference in their lived and it is time for them remember their alma mater and be a part of its ongoing journey. The university, he further stated remains to be one of the top universities in the country. He also reminded the university alumni about their success in the different fields starting from academics, defence, government, media, and politics.
The Vice-Chancellor also pointed out the need for a critical assessment of the university as to its placement in the coming decades and how to get there. He also added that if planned, the university can become one of the top universities in the world and for that, it is needed to keep a tract of technology and also build new research facilities, state-of-the-art online resources, better student accommodation and also state new academic programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor while addressing the alumni also added that their contribution to the university in the form of scholarships makes a difference in enabling the students to reach their full potential and the funds raised through the contribution of the alumni will also transform the lives of thousands of students coming to JNU.
