
With an aim to push ‘Study in India’ initiative ahead, the Government is all set to make top degree programmes offered by reputed Indian Higher Education institutes available to students from Africa online. These programmes will be offered under the newly conceptualized scheme of e-Vidya Bharati and e-Aarogya Bharati schemes of Ministry of External Affairs. The move comes as part of the Central Government’s initiative to promote India as a global education hub in the world.
Online Availability of Top Programmes
According to the media reports, Human Resource Development Ministry along with the Ministry of External Affairs has finalized over 60 programmes offered by leading Indian universities, colleges and institutes, to students from African continent. These programmes will be available to the students at a click of a button, through online platforms. As per reports, the decision is part of MEA’s e-Vidya Bharati and e-Aarogya Bharati project, for which the foreign affairs ministry has signed an agreement with the Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL).
Why such an initiative?
The decision to make popular degree programmes and certificate courses offered by reputed Indian education institutions available online to African students comes in the wake of enhancing the global reach and stature of these institutions. Furthermore, it will also allow Indian educational institutions to make higher education programmes available and accessible to millions of students in African continent. According to government officials, the online courses can be launched starting from October 2019 itself.

Scholarship Scheme for Deserving Students
Different courses offered under the E-Vidya Bharati and E-Aarogya project will attract different fees, as decided by the institute. However, to ease the financial burden on the students, MEA is planning to launch scholarship scheme for deserving candidates.
