NMC Advisory for Medical Colleges: The National Medical Commission has issued an advisory for all medical colleges and institutions directing them to develop a policy for a safe work environment within the college and hospital campus. The NMC has urged that the campus should be a safe space for all the staff members including the faculty, students and resident doctors.

The NMC advisory has come during the ongoing protests by resident and junior doctors in hospitals across the country against the rape and murder of a resident doctor in Kolkata inside the hospital premises. Resident doctors working at hospitals across the country have been on strike in protest against the incident.

Medical colleges are requested to develop a policy for a safe work environment within the college and hospital campus for staff members including faculty, medical students and resident doctors.

The advisory also mentions that on college and hospital campuses, corridors should be well-lit in the evening and ensure that staff members walk safely from one place to another. It further added that all sensitive areas should be under CCTV surveillance.

The advisory further adds that security measures including posting adequate security staff should also be available at OPD wards, casualty, labour rooms, hostels, residential quarters and other open areas in the medical colleges and hospital campus.
