OSHEC: Applications invited from young faculties for research proposals

The Odisha Higher Education Department has invited the applications for innovative research proposals from young faculties from different colleges and universities in the state to conduct research work by acquiring seed funding from the state government.

The Odisha Higher Education Department has invited the applications for innovative research proposals from young faculties from different colleges and universities in the state to conduct research work by acquiring seed funding from the state government. 

As per reports, if a faculty member is selected they will get the seed funding of Rs, 5 Lakh for research. Each year 40 faculty members will be provided with the funding with a duration of 2 years to show the output of the research

Odisha State Higher Education Council Vice-Chairman Asoka Kumar Das has stated that the applications are invited from candidates for research proposals within 15 days. .he further added that 39 faculty members were selected last year for the seed funding one of whom did not enroll for the programme. 38 teachers are now conducting research on their innovative ideas, he further pointed out.

Research proposals to be scrutinized

After receiving the application an expert team from the OSHEC will be scrutinizing the research proposals and selecting the best out of them. Almost 40 innovative research proposals will be selected for the seed funding.

The policy guidelines have been released by the state government on the Odisha University Research and Innovation Incentivisation Plan to provide incentives to the selected scholars and seed funding to the young faculty members for the research work.

Applications invited for Junior Research Fellowship

The department will also invite applications for a junior research fellowship from some selected National Eligibility Test qualified scholars who have failed to get the junior research fellow award by the University Grants Commissions or the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.

The fellowship period will be limited to four years which is also extendable to another year with prior approval of the OSHEC. 

Candidates eligible for the programme can get a fellowship of Rs. 15000 per month with a contingency of Rs. 25000 per year for subjects with laboratory work and Rs. 15000 for subjects without laboratory work. The number of fellowships in each subject is limited to five with two fellowships reserved for female students in 35 subjects.

Fellowship Funding based on NEP

The State Higher Education Council Vice-Chairman also added that the candidate must be below 30 years of age as of January 1 of the year in which the fellowship award is being made. The National Education Policy of the central government has mentioned the funding for the researchers but the decision about seed funding and fellowship to students was taken before the NEP comes into the picture.
