Puducherry Schools, Colleges Reopening: Taking into account the COVID-19 situation now, the Puducherry Government has decided to allow reopening of schools and colleges. As per the latest announcement, educational institutions in the Union Territory of Puducherry will be allowed to resume offline classes from 4th February 2022 onwards. The decision about Reopening of Schools and Colleges in Puducherry has been confirmed by Home and Education Minister of the Union Territory A Namassivayam during a media interaction. With concerns around educational loss for students being voiced by parents and academic experts, the UT Administration seems to have taken the decision to allow physical lectures.
Decision Taken at Education Dept Review Meeting
The decision to allow reopening of schools and colleges in the Union Territory was taken at a review meeting of Education Department on Monday. The meeting was chaired by Puducherry Education Minister A Namassivayam who reviewed the prevailing situation around COVID-19. Mr Namassivayam also assessed the preparedness of educational institutions to ensure safe return of students back to the campus before taking the final decision.
6-Day Classes, Full-Day Sessions
To make-up for the loss incurred so far due to closure of Schools and Colleges, the Education Department has not allowed any other relaxations in physical lectures for now. As per the statement made by Education Minister, starting from 4th February, all schools and colleges will operate for 6-days in a week and have full-day sessions. While this will help mitigate to make-up for the lost time, educational institutions have to ensure that all COVID-19 guidelines and protocols are followed on campus. This includes social distancing, wearing of face masks and hand hygiene management.
