Punjab state cabinet has decided to give Rs 2000 as a one-time allowance to students studying in higher educational institutions to help them attend the online classes amidst the increasing COVID cases and schools being shut.
According to state Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi when addressing the media after the meeting stated that this decision will help close to 8.67 lakh students.
Schools in Punjab closed until January 15
According to recent reports, the Punjab state government has decided to close the schools in the state due to the increase in the COVID-19 and omicron cases. As per reports, schools and colleges in Punjab will reopen from January 15, 2022, and until then the classes will continue for the students in the online mode.
The announcement regarding the closing of schools was made by the state chief minister in a bid to control the spread of COVID especially among children given that the vaccinations for children between age 15 to 18 are underway.
Many of the state governments across the country have announced their decision to close down schools until further notice considering the rising COVID and Omicron cases.
