Rajasthan Government seeks Centre’s assistance to extend mid-day meal scheme to Class 9 to 12 girl students

Rajasthan Government has reached out to the Central Government seeking its assistance for the extend the mid-day meal scheme to girl students studying in Class 9 to Class 12 in the state. As per a media report, Rajasthan state education minister Govind Singh Dotasara has confirmed the news about seeking centre’s help to provide the mid-day meal scheme to girl students in the state, studying in secondary and high-secondary schools.

Request on Occasion of International Girl Child Day 2019

Rajasthan State Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasara made the announcement seeking centre’s assistance while addressing a function organized to commemorate International Day of the Girl Child 2019 at Shiksha Sankul. Addressing the gathering, the minister said that quality education and proper nutrition, both were very important for girl students to enable them to grow and progress in their academic life.

Why extend Mid-day Meal Scheme?

Currently, under the mid-day meal scheme, students between the age-group of 6-14 years i.e. studying in Class 1 to Class 8 are provided mid-day meals. However, Rajasthan Government was planning to extend it to girl students in higher classes as well. While speaking at the event, Rajasthan Education Minister said that his government was very keen to extend the mid-day meal scheme for girl students studying in Class 9 to Class 12. It will help provide girl students nutritional meals that will enable them to perform better in their studies.

Emphasis on Improving Quality of Mid-day Meals

In addition to this, he also said that Rajasthan Education Ministry was closely monitoring the quality of mid-day meals being provided to the students. He said that to ensure quality of mid-day meals being served to the students, the government has launched several programmes and initiatives. As part of this, the government is also planning to hold a training exercise for cooks and helpers who prepare these meals. In the training, the workers will be trained in preparing balanced nutritional meals that are high in quality.
