Schools and Colleges in Karnataka’s Shivamogga city will remain closed until tomorrow - February 23, 2022, as per an announcement made by Deputy Commissioner Slevamani R. The decision to keep the educational institutions in Shivamogga closed has been taken amidst the tensions arising in the city after a 23-year-old Bajrang Dal activist was stabbed to death.
Schools closed until Feb 23
According to the initial orders issued, schools were announced to be closed for two days until tomorrow. Based on the situation at the time, an extension of the order will be issued. Final confirmation on this however is yet to be announced.
Authorities have also declared Section 144 in the city to maintain law and order. The incident has raised tensions in the state and the CM has asked citizens to maintain law and order. The CM further added that steps have been taken to solve the situation at hand. Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnaneendra when speaking to the media also stated that such incidents should not happen and also took the opportunity to appeal to the people to maintain calm.
Karnataka Hijab Protests
Schools and colleges in Karnataka were reopened completely on February 16, 2022. The schools, however, implemented restrictions in areas where the Hijab led protests were ongoing. The state has been witnessing protests after some of the educational institutions restricted the entry of the students wearing Hijab and stated that only the prescribed uniforms will be allowed inside the campus.
