Shahid Ashraf takes charge as the new Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, replaces Talat Ahmad

Pro-Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Shahid Ashraf on Tuesday took charge as the Vice Chancellor (VC).

The Jamia Millia Islamia issued a statement where it has stated that Pro-Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Shahid Ashraf on Tuesday took charge as the Vice Chancellor (VC), replacing Talat Ahmad. Ahmed, who is a renowned earth scientist, joined the University of Kashmir as the vice chancellor replacing Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi.

Talak Ahmed, was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour by a contingent of police in the Jamia Millia Islamia campus. In 1988-89, Ahmad did a Post Doctoral Fellowship with University of Liecester, while in 1997-98, he did Post Doctoral Fellowship with University of Cambridge. In 1999-2000, he did another Post Doctoral Fellowship with Nagota University (Japan).

Before becoming the vice chancellor of the varsity, Ashraf served as Pro-Vice Chancellor of the university from August 2016. Prior to that, he served the university as Registrar and Finance Officer too. He is currently heading the varsity's Department of Economics, a statement from the JMI said.

"Ashraf has vast experience in teaching, research and administration. He has authored several books and research articles published in leading national and international journals. His research interests include industrial and financial economics and employment and development issues," it added.
