TN School Reopening Update: As per the latest update, the Tamil Nadu State Government is planning to reopen schools in the state after Pongal, nearly after 10 months since their closure due to COVID pandemic. To build general consensus around School Reopening, Government has directed schools to hold PTA meetings on or before 8th January, and seek parents’ views on the reopening process. Several school administrators and teachers have recommended reopening of schools in phased manner as it is a necessity to clear doubts. Many students are apprehensive about the asking doubts during online sessions, making reopening of schools a must.

Official Circular Released Online

To confirm the development, the State School Education Department issued an official circular. The circular issued by School Education Director S Kannappan says “It is necessary to reopen schools for students who are due to write board exams to conduct physical classes and prepare them for the exams. So, all schools should conduct parents meeting on or before 8th January 2021.” The circular also states that the final decision about reopening of schools would depend on the views shared by parents. The department has also structured standard operating procedures, SOPs for the reopening of schools.

Board Exams Dates to be Announced Shortly

Earlier in the week, the State Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan has confirmed that both SSLC and HSC Board Exams 2021 for Class 10 and 12 students would be held for sure. He had also shared that the exams would be held as per the traditional method of pen-and-paper mode, ruling out any possibility of online exams. Detailed date sheets or time table for the upcoming exams will be released by the Tamil Nadu Board shortly. The announcement comes amid rising rumours about declaration of ‘zero academic year’ by the state government due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
