UP Government Bans School Fee Hike: Yogi Adityanath led UP Government has directed all schools based in the state to not hike the school fees for the next academic session i.e. academic session 2020-21. The decision will be applicable to all schools operating in the state, irrespective of their affiliation to State Board, CBSE, ICSE or the International Board. The decision has been taken by the UP Government taking into account the concerns raised by parents and students on the fees being hiked by school amid the on-going lockdown due to Coronavirus pandemic.
Decision Announced by UP Deputy Chief Minister
To confirm the development, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma issued a formal statement on Monday – 27th April 2020. In his statement, Mr Sharma said that “All schools in the state affiliated to CBSE, ICSE or UP Board will not be allowed to increase fees for the academic session 2020-21. The schools will only be allowed to charge fees which were applicable in the year 2019-20.” He also added that those schools who have already hiked their fees and collected the same from the parents will have to adjust the hiked fee amount against the fees in the coming months. Following the formal announcement, UP Government Principal Secretary, Secondary Education, Aradhana Shukla, issued orders to this regards to all the district magistrates and director, secondary education.
Major Relief for Parents, Students
Justifying the decision to ban School Fee hike for academic session 2020-21, UP Deputy Chief Minister said that the decision has been taken keeping in mind the economic and financial hardships faced by parents and students and their parents. He said that due to on-going lockdown, parents have been dealing with challenges such as paycuts, less income and other financial challenges, which has adversely impacted their ability to pay the school fees. To ease this burden, the state government has decided to ban school fee hike for all schools operating in the state for next academic session.
