NIOS is popularly known as National institute of Open schooling is the board of education for Distance education under the Union government of India. NIOS was established by ministry of Human resource development of the government of India in the year 1989 to provide qualitative education inexpensively in remote areas. The NIOS is a body that comes under the national board which takes care of the examinations for secondary and senior secondary examinations of open schools similar to the CBSE and the CISCE. There are about 1.5 million students from 2004-2009 at secondary and senior secondary levels and enrolls about 350,000 students annually which make it the largest open schooling system in the world. There are three level courses which includes 
OBE ‘A ‘level course -equivalent to class iii
OBE ‘B’ level course – equivalent to class V 
OBE ‘C’ level course – equivalent to class VIII
Secondary course – equivalent to class X 
Senior secondary course – equivalent to class XII
Vocational education courses

All these levels constitute an important role in the development or growth of students. The examinations under NIOS are held twice in a year in the months of April-May and October-November on the dates fixed by the board. This step of the board has enabled the students to pursue education and create better future prospects for their own self. These courses offer inclusive learning with universal and flexible access to quality education and skill development.
The results for the same are published on the website or the result can also be checked through SMS. Students can even register their e-mail id for more information. . In 2012 there were approximately 1 lakh 53 thousand appeared for the examination of 10th and on the other hand registration of 1 lakh 72 thousand was done for class 12th. As far as the pass percentage of class 10th examinations was concerned, the girls outshined the boys with 45.21 per cent of males having passed the examination, while the pass percentage of females was 44.19. As compared to class statistics of class 12th, the pass percentage of girls were 39.10 to that 37.99 of boys.

Thus clearing class 12th examinations have proved to be valuable to the students as there are great future prospects that are offered to the students. And for the year 2014, NIOS 10TH and 12th result 2014 will be declared once the examinations are conducted.
