    Introduction

    Delhi University and its flourishing campus life have been famous among young students all over the country. Bollywood, over the years, has cashed in on this inclination and made movies based on DU. Most of them echoed with the youngsters and were instant blockbusters.

    While Bollywood draws inspiration from DU, there are actors who can give firsthand account of their lives in the university. These are the people who were ordinary students at the university before becoming big movie stars. Let us have a look at this dazzling list:

    Shah Rukh Khan

    Before becoming the 'King of Bollywood', Shah Rukh Khan pursued  economics from Delhi University's famous Hansraj College.  Shah Rukh has appeared in more than 80 Bollywood films, and earned numerous accolades, including 14 Filmfare Awards.  Shah Rukh's famous love story with wife Gauri Khan also started during his days at Delhi University. She was a student at Lady Sri Ram college and Shah Rukh is said to be travelling from north campus to south, only to meet her. The couple have been married for 26 years and are blessed with three kids. If this is not a fairytale romance, we wonder what is!

    Amitabh Bachchan

    The 'star of the millennium' Amitabh Bachchan was also a student of Delhi University before he figured out that acting was his true calling. Amitabh was dubbed India's first 'angry young man' for his on-screen roles in Bollywood movies. He has appeared in over 190 Indian films in a career spanning almost five decades and is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. Amitabh did his graduation from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University and is said to have pursued a degree in science.

    Arjun Rampal

    Arjun Rampal is another economics graduate in our list. He got is degree from Hindu college and later went on to become a supermodel. Recalling his university days, Rampal had earlier said, “We used to watch a major chunk of movies at Chanakya theatre at Chankyapuri". Rampal started his career as a model at 17 years of age and was already doing great by the time he turned 20. His wife Mehr was also a supermodel and winner of Miss India title in 1986. Rampal gave an excellent performance in Rock On!! as Joseph "Joe" Mascarenhas, the lead guitarist of a band, earning the prestigious National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 56th National Film Awards, Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award at the 54th Filmfare Awards among many others.

    Imtiaz Ali

    If you liked Imtiaz's movie Rockstar starring Nargis Fakhri and Ranbir Kapoor, you'd be happy to know that the director himself is an alumni of Hindu college like Ranbir Kapoor's character in the film. Imtiaz founded Hindu College's theater society 'Ibtida' which is considered to be among the best ones in the university. Imtiaz Ali graduated from Hindu College with English honours degree in the year 1993 and went on to do a diploma course from Xavier Institute of Communication. He has  made movies like Jab We Met, Highway and Tamasha which gained him popularity and critical acclaim.

    Anurag Kashyap

    The director of Gangs Of Wasseypur, is a zoology graduate from Hansraj College of Delhi University. He desired to become a scientistbut fate had other plans. He eventually joined a street theatre group, Jana Natya Manch; and did many street plays. He is said to have been a backbencher in the class but also someone who'd raise his voice against social evils like ragging. In an interview, he once said, “Every time I’m in the city, I make sure to visit my college at least once". Kashyap's movies like Dev D and Gangs of Wasseypur are considered to be modern day classics and are part of the curriculum at many film colleges.

    Manoj Bajpayee

    A history graduate from Ramjas College of Delhi University, Manoj owes his career to the city and his college. He was once quoted as saying, " I was passionate about my studies but never missed out on theatre. Everything that I am today is because of Ramjas College and Delhi". College's theatre society came into existence long after he graduated but has had a lasting impact on his acting skills and career. He is a critically acclaimed actor who has acted in movies like Pinjar, Bandit Queen, Gangs of Wasseypur. Manoj is a two time recipient of National Film Awards and four time recipient of Filmfare Award.

    Konkana Sen Sharma

    Known for her power-packed performances, Konkana Sen Sharma is an English Honours graduate from DU's premium St Stephen's College. Speaking about the college's influence on her career, Konkana was once quoted as saying, “I didn’t always know that’s what I’d like to eventually do — act. You get many opportunities to explore so that something may strike you as ‘this is what I want’. Thankfully, Stephen’s did it for me". She has played important parts in movies like Omkara, Life in a... Metro, Mr. and has received national film award for best actress for movie, Mrs. Iyer.
