Another good news reached us when Dr. Apratim Guha Associate Professor, Production & Quantitative Methods Area with IIM-A confirmed confirmed that 89.67 percentile is not the lowest entry that got into IIM Ahmedabad's PG programme this year. In this regard he commented that “It is indeed true that one candidate from general category with 89.67 CAT percentile has been shortlisted this year; in fact, this is not the lowest CAT percentile among the shortlisted general category candidates this year.”

Why I did not get a call from IIM despite a CAT score of 99 percentile

IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria

If 89.67 is not the lowest percentile, unlike the previous shorlisting criteria then we need to find out the modification being brought in the new guidelines.

In this regard, Dr Apratim Guha mentioned that IIM Ahmedabad selects students for its PGP based on a diverse set of attributes which includes various parameters starting from performance in CAT, performance in AWT & PI, academic performance, co-curricular and extra-curricular achievements, work experience etc. He also mentioned that “People with relatively lower CAT percentile can still get selected if they perform exceptionally in terms of the other attributes.”

Similarly, Vidit Garg’s selection is a contemporary example of heightened chances of selection even if an aspirant does not performs exceedingly well in CAT exam. Vidit and many more students have broken all the clichés that pushes the student to score not less than 98 percentile or 99 percentile in CAT exam to make it to the top B-School of India.

CAT 2017: Is It Too Early to Start the Preparation?

So even if you are a 99+ scorer in CAT, don’t be assured of receiving a call from IIMs. As per the recent guidelines, it is your comprehensive performance in all the aspects that can get you a call from top B-schools of India.

All you got to become is “Jack of All Trades” and grab a seat in IIMs.

A happy Career Journey to all the MBA aspirants...
