Bangalore University’s 16 percent Colleges have NAAC Accreditation; Rest didn’t Apply

Dec 17, 2014 14:08 IST

A shocking survey revealed that Bangalore University’s (BU’s) only 16 % colleges have been accreditated by NAAC, insipte of the organization being headquartered in Begaluru itself.

Of the over 590 colleges coming under BU, less than 100 have got the nod from the NAAC. NAAC even opened a Central Application Processing Unit in September this year to fast track the process.

The University Grants Commission (Mandatory Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Educational Institutions), Regulations, 2012 had made accreditation mandatory for all institutions of higher education to be eligible for funding.

According to the regulations, all such institutions have to be accredited by an accreditation agency after the passing out of two batches or after completing six years of existence.

    Important points:

    1. Banaglore University’s only 95 colleges out of 590 have been accreditated by NAAC.
    2. NAAC is headquartered in Bengaluru itself.
    3. Now, it has been made mandatory that all colleges must have NAAC accreditation.
