BITSAT-2015: Tips and Tricks to crack the exam

May 12, 2015 12:21 IST

BITSAT-2015 is one of the India’s top engineering entrance exams being conducted by The Birla Institute of Technology and Science for the admission to different engineering courses at the various campuses of BITS. To help a candidate, score well and get the most coveted seat in one of these branches of BITS, following are some of the most important tips and tricks to crack BITSAT-2015.

    1. Candidates must start the BITSAT paper either with maths or physics as it would help a candidate in committing lesser mistakes in the calculations at the end of the exam.
    2. Candidates must try to attempt the paper in the following order: Maths-Physics-Chemistry-English-Logical reasoning. But it is not necessary that a candidate has to follow the above order. He/she can start the paper with a subject with which the candidates are competent with.
    3. Candidates should try to spend only one minute per question in the examination. Wasting too much time on a question in beginning could result in chaos during the exam which may affect the score of a candidate.
    4. It is important for a candidate to attempt at least 120 questions correctly. As in BITSAT, there is negative marking for every wrong question so a candidate should attempt a minimum of 120 questions to score good in the exam. Answering 120 questions implies a score of 360 which is suitable for admission into BITS Pilani. For attempting 120 questions in all, every section can be divided in a manner that a candidate attempt 20 questions in English and logical reasoning, 35 each in Chemistry and Mathematics and 30 in Physics.
    5. There is always confusion on whether to attempt the bonus questions. Candidates must know that he/she can only attempt those 12 questions only if they have attempted all the questions of the question paper. Bonus questions are easier than questions in the paper but a candidate should attempt these questions only in a scenario if he/she has completed more than 140 questions, along with that candidate must have around 20 minutes to attempt these bonus questions.
    6. There are several BITSAT online test series available on the web. These mock tests help a candidate in improving his/her skills and speed of attempting the paper.
    7. In the end, candidates can check for the important topics from BITSAT-2015 point of view:
    • Physics: Newton’s laws, energy and work, heat and thermodynamics, current electricity, Magnetism and magnetic effect of electric current.
    • Chemistry: Concentrate on physical chemistry and quantitative analysis than organic and inorganic (especially for inorganic just go through NCERT).
    • Mathematics: Trigonometry, Conic sections (parabola, ellipse, hyperbola, rectangular hyperbola), Vectors and 3D, Integral Calculus.
