From the last academic session, in CBSE Class 9, board had introduced the new format of examination. Under the new format, the dual assessment scheme that included two summative assessments was replaced with the annual examination wherein students are tested for the complete syllabus of CBSE class 9.
So to plan an effective strategy for the annual exam preparations, it’s quite essential for students to get familiarised with the new examination pattern bfore thay actually appear for the finals.
Here, we are providing the latest examination pattern for CBSE Class 9 Science, to give a preview of the exam structure that students will see in the CBSE class 9 annual exams 2018. It will help students make an appropriate preparation strategy and write a perfect exam to score optimum marks.
CBSE Class 9 Science Examination Pattern is as follows:
This year CBSE class 9 Science question paper will be conducted for 80 marks covering 100% syllabus. The remaining 20 marks are alloted to internal assessment (IA) which will be added while calculating the overall grade.
Internal Assessment will be conducted as per the following marks distribution:

Note: Out of 80 marks annual examination, 68 marks weightage shall be for theory and 12 marks weightage shall be for practical based questions.
CBSE Class 9 Science Question Paper format is given below:
- The question paper will comprise of a total of 27 questions divided into four sections, A, B, C, D and E.
- Question numbers 1 and 2 in Section-A will be asked for one mark each.
- Question numbers 3 to 5 in Section-B will be asked for two marks each.
- Question numbers 6 to 15 in Section-C will be asked for three marks each.
- Question numbers 16 to 21 in Section-D will be asked for 5 marks each.
- Question numbers 22 to 27 in Section- E will be all practical based questions carrying 2 marks each .

As, the course structure of class 9 has been designed in line with that of class 10, therefore the examination pattern and question paper structure will also be almost similar to class 10 Science paper.
