CBSE Summons Schools & Students to Participate in 43rd UPU Letter Writing Competition 2014

The Department of Post, Ministry of Communication & IT, India shall be organizing the 43rd UPU (Universal Postal Union) Letter Writing Competition 2014 for students on 5 January, 2014. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has requested to the Principals/Heads of all the affiliated schools/ institutions to organize this competition in their respective schools, and send the entries on or before 21 December 2013.

The Department of Post, Ministry of Communication & IT, India shall be organizing the 43rd UPU (Universal Postal Union) Letter Writing Competition 2014 for students on 5 January, 2014. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has requested to the Principals/Heads of all the affiliated schools/ institutions to organize this competition in their respective schools, and send the entries on or before 21 December 2013 to the Chief Postmaster General of their States for evaluation, who will submit the three best entries to the Postal Directorate, New Delhi.

Then, the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications & IT, Government of India, shall select three best entries at the National Level; each of them will be awarded cash prizes and certificates of achievement. The best entry at the National Level shall qualify as the official Indian entry for the International Level Competition of Universal Postal Union.

In addition, the department will also distribute a consolation prize and certificate to one best entry from each circle.

The International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union coordinates this Letter Writing Competition and selects the three prize winners amongst the best entries received from each member country of the UPU. The top three winners will be awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals along with an album of the official postage stamps of the Universal Postal Union.

The notification available at CBSE website says, “The Letter Writing Competition seeks to nurture the students’ creativity and sense of sharing by giving them a platform to express them through writing and to contribute to the strengthening of international friendship. In times, when Letter Writing is losing its prominence and importance, the UPU has taken the initiative of carrying the oldest and the most traditional communication medium to the next generation.”

The language to be used in holding the competition is English or any of the languages recognized under 8th schedule of Indian Constitution.
