CSAT Helps Selecting The Right Candidate For Administration

CSAT is introduced in the UPSC PT Exam with an intention to upgrade candidates’ ability to administer better and make a pace in the Indian Administration. In the process of CSAT preparation, a candidate gets ready for a Faster and Better Administration.

 
Decision Making: Situation based decision making questions are to help the candidates to be prepared to take the right decision at the need of time. Administrators are supposed to take the right decision quickly and smartly. This attempt of the introduction of Decision Making and Problem Solving in the CSAT will definitely help candidates to get themselves prepared to work as a bureaucrat in future.

Public Relation: Public Relations play important role in the Public Administration. Thus a candidate of the Civil Services Exam must know the general Communication Skills and basic Interpersonal Personal Skills to administer people and society. Thus questions on Communication Skills and basic Interpersonal Personal Skills will be asked in the CSAT to judge the candidate’s public relationship.

Necessity of English: English is the International Language, being spoken and used officially in all the states of India. Thus, a candidate of the Civil Services Exam must know English language at least from the point of view of official use. Moreover, a Civil Services Officer might be posted in any of the Indian states. In case, the officer does not know the language of the particular state, then he/she can use English for any kind of communication, as English has been accepted in all the states of India as the International standard language.

Reasoning Judgement: Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability are to help the candidate to be alert for the future administrative situational problems. Reasoning and Analysis teach the candidate how to judge a problematic situation, analyse it and take decisions accordingly to solve the problem.

Diplomatic Administration: A good administrator has to be diplomatic in his approach to administration. With the help of logical reasoning, communication skill, analytical ability etc. an administrator can be diplomatic when needed.  In many instances, the administrator needs to hide information from the general public or to present them in a different way. And CSAT is designed to test the candidate’s ability to be diplomatic when the situation demands.

Testing Understanding Level: In CSAT, there is no mugging up game. It is all about testing a candidate’s overall understanding level of different subjects. CSAT is totally applied. There is no use of mugging up. Candidates have to understand the topics and then only they can answer different questions asked in the UPSC PT Exam. In the long run, in practical administration, understanding (understanding of different issues) would play the actual role.

Thus the new introduction of CSAT in the UPSC PT exam, attempts to select a candidate for the Indian Administration on the basis of the candidate’s overall ability in the Social and Mental decision making.
