The full form of CSIR NET is Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test. This national-level exam is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and to qualify them for lectureship roles in Indian universities and colleges. CSIR NET focuses on disciplines such as Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.

CSIR NET Eligibility

To appear for the CSIR NET exam, candidates must meet the certain eligibility parameters. Failing to do will result in disqualification. Hence, candidates are advised to thoroughly check the CSIR NET eligibility criteria before applying.

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates should hold an M.Sc. or equivalent degree with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories). Final-year students awaiting results are also eligible to apply.
  • Age Limit: For JRF, the maximum age is 28 years (relaxation is provided for reserved categories and women). There is no upper age limit for lectureship roles.
  • Nationality: Applicants must be Indian citizens.

 CSIR NET exam pattern is designed to test candidates’ subject knowledge and research aptitude. Conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT), the exam has a duration of 3 hours. The paper is divided into three parts: Part A, Part B, and Part C. It consists of multiple-choice questions with varying marks allocated to each section.
