    Q1. Consider the following statements regarding the recently scheduled to launch Indian weather satellite INSAT-3DR built by ISRO?

    1.    INSAT-3DR is the first advanced meteorological satellite of India configured with an imaging System and an Atmospheric Sounder.

    2.    INSAT-3DR is scheduled to be launched aboard on Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV –F05) and will eventually be stationed in lower earth orbit (LEO).
    Which of the above statements are correct?

    The ISRO has scheduled the launch of Indian weather satellite INSAT-3DR on 10 September 2016 aboard a Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

    1.    Three meteorological satellites of India - KALPANA-1, INSAT-3A and INSAT-3D - are operational in the geostationary orbit for the past one decade and INSAT-3D is first to be configured with an imaging System  as well as an Atmospheric Sounder. So statement 1 is wrong.

    2.    INSAT-3DR has a lift-off mass includes about 1255 kg of propellant. The propellant is mainly required to raise the satellite from the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) to its final Geostationary Orbit not in lower earth orbit (LEO). So statement 2 is also wrong.

    Q2. Indian placed at 35th rank among 160 countries in Logistics Performance Index (LPI) 2016. Which of the following organization released the Logistics Performance Index report 2016?

    The Logistics Performance Index Report is published by World Bank every two years. The title of 2016 report was “Connecting to complete 2016“.

    Key Features:

    1.    The six-components of the LPI are:

    • Customs,
    • Infrastructure,
    • International Shipments,
    • Logistics Quality and Competence,
    • Tracking and Tracing, and
    • Timeliness

    2.    This report is based on the survey conducted on stakeholders for providing feedback on the logistics “friendliness” of countries in which they are established and those countries with which they have trade relations.

    3.    This report acts as an indicator of trade logistic health of a country making it easy to identify the bottlenecks in the trading system and availing opportunities in the future involvements.

    4.    India’s ranking has increased by 19 places in Logistics Performance Index 2016.

    Q3. The Union Cabinet recently gave approval to proposal for dissolution of Central Inland Water Transport Corporation Limited (CIWTC). Consider the following statements regarding CIWTC?

    1. It was incorporated as a Government of India Undertaking after taking over the business from a loss making erstwhile sterling company, namely River Steam Navigation & Co. (RSN & Co.).
    2. It is under the administrative control of Ministry of Shipping (MOS), Govt. of India.
    3. The main activities are transportation of cargo in the rivers on the western India routes.

    1.    The mandate of the Committee was to study all types of gaps in fencing & all other vulnerabilities in the International Border on Indo-Pakistan Border and to suggest comprehensive approach to fix these gaps in fencing and other vulnerabilities on interim and permanent basis.

    4.    The spouse/ dependents of the PRS holder will be allowed to take up employment in private sector and undertake studies in India.
