GATE 2025 Paper Analysis: The GATE 2025 exam was conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee on February 01, 02, 15 and 16, 2025, at designated test centres spread across 8 exam zones. The exam will be conducted in two sessions- Forenoon Session from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and Afternoon Session from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. 

More than 8 Lakh aspirants will appear in the exam for 30 papers. Marking scheme

Questions carry 1 mark and 2 marks

Negative marking

Negative marking is applicable for MCQs.

For 1-mark/2 mark MCQ, 1/3 mark/ 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.

No negative markings for MSQ and NAT questions.

No partial marking applicable for any question

GATE 2025 Civil Engineering (CE) Analysis

The GATE Civil Engineering paper contains three General Aptitudes, Engineering Mathematics and Civil Engineering. The GATE Civil Engineering paper has 65 questions with a total of 100 marks. The total allotted time for the exam is 3 hours. 

Based on initial feedback, the overall difficulty level of the exam conducted in both shifts was moderate to difficult

  • Strength of Materials, Environmental Engineering, and Transportation Engineering had higher weightage.

  • Questions required a deep conceptual understanding, with fewer direct formula-based questions.

  • Some tricky questions were present in Geotechnical Engineering and Structural Analysis.

GATE 2025 Chemical Engineering (CH) Analysis

The GATE Chemical Engineering paper contains three General Aptitudes, Engineering Mathematics and Chemical Engineering. The GATE Chemical Engineering paper has 65 questions with a total of 100 marks. The total allotted time for the exam is 3 hours. 

As per the initial feedback, the overall difficulty level of the paper was moderate

  • More emphasis on Thermodynamics, Reaction Engineering, and Process Control.

  • Heat Transfer had some challenging numerical problems.

  • A mix of theoretical and numerical questions ensured balanced coverage of the syllabus.

GATE 2025 Physics (PH) Analysis

The GATE Physics paper contains two General Aptitudes and Core Physics. The GATE Physics paper has 65 questions with a total of 100 marks. The total allotted time for the exam is 3 hours. 

As per the initial response, the overall exam was relatively easier as compared to the previous year.

  • Mathematical Physics and Quantum Mechanics were heavily tested.

  • Some numerical questions were lengthy and required in-depth calculations.

  • Experimental physics questions were straightforward but required conceptual clarity.

  • A few assertion-reason and multiple select questions (MSQs) were tricky.

GATE 2025 Statistics (ST) Analysis

The GATE Statistics paper contains two General Aptitudes and Core Statistics. The GATE Statistics paper has 65 questions with a total of 100 marks. The total allotted time for the exam is 3 hours. 

Based on initial responses, the overall difficulty level of the exam was nearly the same as the previous year.

  • Probability and Regression Analysis were the dominant sections.

  • Some unexpected yet solvable questions were found in Multivariate Distributions.

  • Data Interpretation questions were slightly time-consuming but manageable.
