In order to address the ever shrinking areas for playing in the parks and grounds in the capital for children, the New Delhi government has decided to throw open 77 government school playgrounds for the people of the local community. The parks will be open for the people of the locality before and after the school hours, where children from that locality can play and the people can take a stroll.
The playgrounds of the schools are strictly allowed for outdoor sporting activity and any other form of recreational or entertainment activity is restricted in those grounds by the government orders. The Department of Education had proposed earlier to open up 77 government school playgrounds, which run their schools in single shifts for outdoor sports activities for the students and youth of the concerned area. The proposal was sanctioned by the Delhi cabinet headed by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Sports associations and clubs will only be allowed in these playgrounds to organize sports related events and tournaments for the children and the youth. Those people who are interested in athletics, sports training and coaching their students can also use the playground allotted by the government.
The people or organization who will like to use these playgrounds will have to write a letter to the concerned head of the schools, which will further be forwarded to the concerned district Deputy Director of Education for permission. The Department of Education clarified that this step has been taken to address the concern of lack of fields in the locality of many students, resulting in lack of sporting activities among the youth.
