There was a time when most youngsters would start looking for a job after completing their graduation or post-graduation. It was rather a trend to get into the field after becoming graduates and post-graduates so that they could get the most suitable jobs. But now times have changed significantly and the preparations and research work to be ready with a job in hand start as early as during school years.

Age wise it might sound too early and premature and get oneself into a pressure situation but the reality is that more and more school students are embarking on their missions to get on the track of career paths.

It is a dicey proposition given that students have a twofold challenge to complete the school and get going with the job and career straightaway.

This is where we tell students how they can make their search process easier with less pressure.

Students can start with marking their focus on the due course of approaching different career options as it is very difficult to identify their exact, suitable career path at this stage. In fact, they should start doing research work and evaluate their options as there are many career options for which measured approach is required.

Identify your area of interest

You have to ask yourself which is your area of interest. Give it a good thought and calculate all the pros and cons. Look around for real life examples of people who are doing that particular job that you have in mind. Observe, study, and analyse how they are doing and imagine you to be in their position, how suitable and fit you see yourself to be in that job.

Go a step further and discuss with people who are doing that job and chances are you will get most candid feedback. This way you can assess how much that occupation will suit you.

Try your hand at jobs

Yes! Here we are saying that you must make efforts to spend some time actually working which you can do during vacations or on holidays. You have to request the department or person concerned to allow you to have a feel as the person with the job. You can also request your school authorities to refer you to places that provide hands-on training.

Keep your options open

This is very viable since it is not necessary that you will get the job of your choice hence it’s always good to have other options ready. Saying this, we also recommend that your alternatives can be closest to your original choice, and even if they are not, be armed with choices.

Conclusion: Students should draw a mental picture of what they would like to do, would be doing in future, and also get hands-on training because this will prepare them for the future.
