HRD Ministry Said to Set Age Wise Targets to Achieve Complete Literacy by 2016

In order to achieve complete literacy within 2016, the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani has said the officers of the adult literacy mission to work in achieving age-wise literacy targets. The Union HRD Minister had previously announced the complete literacy in villages by March 2016 under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna. She had also declared that the best performing officer in this regard would get rewarded by Rs. One Lakh in cash.

She Said, “Pick up an age group and make a target. For example, take the age group of 40-60 and ensure complete literacy in the next one year. Apart from this she also banked on certain palns related to districts and certain areas of the places. She drew their attention towards ‘mera district mera plan’ initiative and said to identify the challenges and issues related to the area regarding literacy. She added that there are almost 56% of the illiterate people who fall under the age group of above 75 years and suggested that there has to be a skill map of individual districts and need to engage people in various livelihood opportunities.”

Encouraging the directors to spearhead it to the next level, she announced cash prizes of Rs. One lakh for best performing officer, Rs. 75000 for second and Rs. 50000 for third best officer, working in the field.  On International Literacy Day (September 8) she had announced that complete literacy would get attained under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna by March 2016.
