IIM Bangalore announced admission criteria for PGP batch 2018-20

    Finally, after a long wait, the much awaited CAT 2017 cut-off list is here. According to the IIM Bangalore admission policy 2018, the premier management institute will award 40% weight to CAT 2017 percentile score in shortlisting and 25% weight in final selection process. For all the MBA aspirants it is a good news, as their performance in the CAT Exam will get due weightage in the selection rounds.

    CAT 2017 cut-off for IIM Bangalore

    As per the admission criteria released by IIM-Bangalore, an overall CAT score of 90 percentile is mandatory to make it to the premier institute. For other categories, the cut-off varies from 80-75 percentile. Here is the detail of both the sectional scores and the overall percentile that one can score to make it to the IIM Bangalore.

    It should also be noted that the actual cut-offs for those who are called for interview could be much higher but if you fail to score minimum of the following scores in CAT 2017, you will not be considered for the 1st phase shortlisting and will be out of admission process at IIM Bangalore.

    Weightage to other parameters

    Academic Performance

    According to the admission policy of IIM Bangalore, “For all candidates in the first shortlist, the candidates percentage scores in the 10th and 12th board exams are initially adjusted by dividing each such score by the 90th percentile score obtained in that board. The database of 10th and 12th scores of all CAT applicants of the past two years is used for identifying the 90th percentile score for each 10th and 12th board for this purpose.”

    IIM Bangalore has given due consideration to your performance in the 10th and 12th standard. If you were an academic star in the school days, your hardwork won’t go in vain. You will be rewarded for it in the assessment for the final selection to IIM Bangalore.

    Performance in Bachalor’s degree

    Your performance in the bachelor degree years will also receive due appreciating. IIM Bangalore has assigned another 20% weightage to your high performance in Bachelor’s Degree. According to IIMB admission policy ‘For all candidates in the first shortlist, final scores obtained by the candidate are used for the bachelors’ degree and professional degrees (if any). Incomplete or intermediate scores are considered only if the candidate's final score is pending. Thus, for final year bachelor’s degree candidates, their incomplete graduation score would be taken in lieu of final graduation score. Graduation scores are adjusted within their respective disciplines. This gives the adjusted score for the bachelor’s degree for all candidates in the first shortlist.’

    Work experience also matters

    IIM Bangalore will not ignore the fact that you have relevant work experience. A candidate with 36 months or greater period work experience will be awarded the highest weightage of 8% in IIM Bangalore 1st stage shortlist. As per IIM-B, the work expericne will be calculated in the following manner:

    The work experience score (maximum 8 in the pre- PI stage) will be multiplied by the quality of work experience score on a 5 point scale (0.25 - 0.5 – 1 - 1.5 - 2) as given by interviewers in the PI process in Phase 2 to then arrive at a weighted work experience score.

    Gender Diversity is also taken care of

    For all the women candidates, additional 2% weightage has been allotted at the 1st stage shortlisting process. According to IIM Bangalore “Gender diversity component is applicable only for the pre-PI rank list for interview calls, and will not be applicable for phase 2 of the admissions process (final offers of admission).”

    WAT-PI round at IIM Bangalore

    WAT Round

    IIM-Bangalore has also specified that in the Written Ability Test (WAT) round, topics will be provided on current socio-political, economic and business affairs. Students can also expect topics from the domain of sports and other abstract areas that involve creative thinking.

    Each candidate will get 30 minutes to write on the topic. The performance of each candidate will be evaluated on the basis of the content and style of writing.

    Personal Interview (PI) Round

    A candidate appearing in the PI round of IIM Bangalore will be evaluated on the basis of his/her performance on academic background, quality of work experience and other personal traits. For Personal Interview – the average of the scores given by the interviewers will be considered.

Currently, the institute has an intake capacity of 400 candidates. The institute accepts CAT Exam scores to grant admission to the IIM aspirants.
