Delhi High Court has been told by the IIT counsel that common counseling for IITs and NITs from this academic session is not possible and it won’t happen from 2015 session by any means. The HRD ministry has previously given an affidavit in favor of the common counseling to the court.

Delhi High Court has been told by the IIT counsel that common counseling for IITs and NITs from this academic session is not possible and it won’t happen from 2015 session by any means. The HRD ministry has previously given an affidavit in favor of the common counseling to the court.

The IIT counsel has made its stance clear to the court by saying that though the software for common counseling would be ready by the end of March by the National Informatics Centre, but it would not get tested fully till June/July when the admission for this academic session begins for IITs and NITs in the country. They, on the other hand, have suggested to opt for a “synchronized admission counseling” , under which counseling of IITs and NITs would be done separately.

This year IIT Bombay would organize Joint Entrance Examination (advanced). IITs and HRD would discuss modalities on March 24 and the High Court would post its final verdict on the mater by March 25. Speaking on behalf of the petitioner Rajiv Kumar, advocate Prashant Bhusan said that it would be a matter of joke if IITs take six to eight months to test the software. He requested the director of IIT Bombay to be summoned as well.

Pranav Sachdeva, who is also in favor of the implementation said, “We are going to press for implementation from this year. It is contempt of court. IITs are resisting it because they want to keep seats vacant and do not want the world to know that many students prefer NITs over IITs.”
