With the initiative of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, a new era in the education system of Punjab is being unfolded. As part of the "Punjab Shikya Kranti", students are not alone; now, the teachers are also being provided with world-class training. Being the son of a teacher himself, Mann thinks that "Teaching is not a job, but a commitment to shaping the future."
To date, 234 principals and education officers have been sent by the state government to Singapore to be trained in international models of teaching. 152 school heads have also been given advanced leadership training at IIM Ahmedabad and 144 primary school teachers were given specialized training at Turku University in Finland. The second batch is also set to be sent abroad this month.
The effect of these global programs is now evident in the classrooms of Punjab. Teachers are embracing conversation-based learning, technology tools, and interactive strategies to make the learning process more interesting and motivating.
To relieve teachers from administrative burden, the government has appointed 1,920 campus managers, which will enable teachers to dedicate their time and focus entirely on teaching.
Punjab is now not only coming up as a model of education transformation, but also as an icon of educational leadership — where each teacher is a lamp of wisdom, and each student is a ray of the future.
