This is one of the toughest questions faced in an interview situation. You need to have a good explanation for any gaps in your employment. Employers are typically vary of persons that are not committed to working and those they feel that that the person can pick up and move at any moment. Whatever your reasons for the gaps, try to be honest.

How to answer this Interview Question:
• Focus first on the reason that there are gaps in your employment which could include any of the following:
o Personal Reasons (Family, Marraige, Kids, Injury, Travel)
o Studies
o Brushing up on skills
• Follow this up with why you are interested in this job, your eagerness to find the right position and why at this time you are serious about your career.
• Make sure that the employer understand that this pattern will not be repeated and you are ready to devote yourself 100%. You need to dispel any fear that the interviewer may have that you are unable to commit to a job.
• Discuss what has changed and why now you are ready to pursue your career.
• Discuss how you have kept current with the latest happenings in your field and that you are up to speed.
