ISC Class 12 English Language Syllabus 2025

Question 1: A composition on one of a number of subjects

  • Candidates will get an option of selecting one topic from the provided six choices
  • Required length of the composition is 400-500 words

Question 2: 

(a) Directed Writing  

  • The required length is 200-300 words
  • The piece should be written on the basis of information and points provided in the question
  • Feature article, book  review, speech  writing, newspaper report and statement of purpose are the types of questions to be asked under this segment

(b) Proposal Writing based on a given situation

  • The proposal has to be written on the basis of information provided
  • Introduction, Objectives, list of measures to be taken has to be included in it

Question 3: Short-answer questions to test grammar, structure and usage

  • It will consist of transformation of sentences, phrasal verbs, and verbs/tenses

Question 4: Comprehension

  • A 700 word passage will be provided. Students will have to answer the questions asked as a part of the question

ISC Board Class 12th English Assessment Pattern

English Language and English Literature subjects are marked out of 100 each. Students can get to know about the assessment pattern, marks division, and evaluation scheme below. 

1. Theory Paper

80 marks

2. Project Work

20 marks

  • Students will have to appear for 80 marks paper in their end-term exams (boards).
  • The internal assessment has been marked for 20 marks and students will have to submit the project within the deadline (as asked by school). 

ISC Class 12th English Project Work Evaluation Scheme

The 20 marks project is further divided into 10 marks each, where the initial 10 marks have to be evaluated by the subject teacher, and the rest 10 marks have to be evaluated by the visiting examiner. Check the evaluation scheme below for a better understanding of the project.
