After long years of battle in Supreme Court, finally Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMIU) got the possession of the 114-acre property, on which the varsity plans to build up a medical college-cum-hospital on the allotted property. The university also plans to build a School of Earth Atmosphere and Planetary Science on the property along with shifting of some crowded departments.
While talking with the media, Vice-Chancellor Talat Ahmad looked happy and enthusiastic with the new project going to get started. He was quoted saying that the hospital and medical college was necessity for the neighbourhood and thus it was mandatory enough to build it. He even added that the university has approached the Human Resource Ministry and the Delhi Government to get the requisite permission and for the financial aid.
The previous government took in lot of effort and initiative to allocate the land to the university and the former Chief Minister of the state Sheila Dikshit personally took up the issue to the then Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram along with former Vice-Chancellor Najeeb Jung.
New two month old Vice Chancellor is all set to bring in change and achieve new benchmarks for the University. Prof Ahmad is taking up projects from national and international agencies and is also stretching his hands on to increase the resources of research. The main aim of Jamia is to come on par with Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
