Light of Knowledge in Every Village: A New Dawn of Education in Punjab Through the ‘Digital Library Yojna’

Under Chief Minister Mann’s initiative, rural knowledge centers are being established; digital facilities, Wi-Fi, and competitive exam resources give new hope to youth
With Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann at the helm, a wave of education and enlightenment is sweeping through Punjab's countryside. The government has introduced the "Digital Library Yojna," as part of which state-of-the-art, well-furnished libraries are being constructed in each assembly constituency. This move is encouraging youngsters towards education and employment.
The mission was inaugurated on August 15, 2024, from Isdu village (Khanna). So far, 278 rural libraries have been completed, and construction is underway for 58 more. Each assembly constituency will have six libraries, with ₹64 lakh being spent per constituency.
These model libraries are equipped with Wi-Fi, solar power, e-learning systems, and a comfortable study environment. Books on literature, science, history, and competitive examinations are available. Harkirat Kaur from Barnala says, “Now there is a peaceful and inspiring place in the village to study. We have access to both books and the internet here.”
These libraries are not just places to read — they are becoming true “knowledge centers” and symbols of social renaissance in rural Punjab. Chief Minister Mann stated, “This mission is an effort to make villages free from drugs and lead them toward knowledge and employment. Our goal is to take education to the very roots of every village.”
