Mother’s Day Poems for School Students and Kids

1. "Thank You, Mom" Joanna Fuchs

Thank you, Mom, for all you do,
Your love is warm and strong and true.
You help me grow, you keep me safe,
You're my hero—my favorite place.

2. "To My Mother" Robert Louis Stevenson

You too, my mother, read my rhymes
For love of unforgotten times,
And you may chance to hear once more
The little feet along the floor.

3. "Mother’s Day"M.S. Lowndes

You are the sunshine of my day,
You make my cares just melt away.
Your love is pure, your smile is bright,
You fill my heart with joy and light.

4. “Mother o’ Mine”  Rudyard Kipling

If I were hanged on the highest hill,
Mother o’ mine, O mother o’ mine!
I know whose love would follow me still,
Mother o’ mine, O mother o’ mine!

If I were drowned in the deepest sea,
Mother o’ mine, O mother o’ mine!
I know whose tears would come down to me,
Mother o’ mine, O mother o’ mine!

If I were damned of body and soul,
I know whose prayers would make me whole,
Mother o’ mine, O mother o’ mine!

5. “A Mother's Love” – Helen Steiner Rice

A mother’s love is something
that no one can explain—
It is made of deep devotion
and of sacrifice and pain.
It is endless and unselfish
and enduring come what may,
For nothing can destroy it
or take that love away...

6. “Her Hands”  Maggie Pittman

Her hands held me gently from the day I took my first breath.
Her hands helped to guide me as I took my first step.
Her hands held me close when the tears would start to fall.
Her hands were quick to show me that she would take care of it all.

Her hands were there to brush my hair, or straighten a wayward bow,
Her hands were often there to comfort the hurts that didn’t show.
Her hands helped hold the stars in place and encouraged me to reach,
Her hands would clap and cheer and praise when I captured them at length...

7. “Rock Me to Sleep” (excerpt)

By Elizabeth Akers Allen

Backward, turn backward, O Time, in your flight,
Make me a child again just for tonight!
Mother, come back from the echoless shore,
Take me again to your heart as of yore.

Kiss from my forehead the furrows of care,
Smooth the few silver threads out of my hair;
Over my slumbers your loving watch keep;
Rock me to sleep, mother, rock me to sleep!

8."A Mother's Love, Forever Blooming" – Eliza Hartley

In the quiet hush of morning light,
When stars have kissed the sky goodnight,
There rises soft a tender grace,
A warmth no time could dare replace.
It stirs within the cradle's song,
A melody both sweet and strong—
The love that pulses, deep and true,
Is that of Mother — ever new.

She wakes before the sun can rise,
With weary heart and dreaming eyes,
Yet still she smiles, and gently goes
To tend the world that only she knows.
Her hands may ache, her feet may tire,
Still burns within her soul—a fire
That lights the dark, that guards our way,
That holds the storms of life at bay.

She teaches not with book or pen,
But in the "now," the where and when.
She leads by grace, by quiet might,
By doing simply what is right.
She listens when the world turns cold,
Her silence stronger than the bold.
Her laughter is the child’s delight,
Her tears — the moon's own borrowed light.

Through every season, joy or pain,
She shields her young from wind and rain.
She hides her fears, she soothes the fall,
She lifts the weak, she hears the call.
And when we rise, and walk alone,
When we have families of our own,
We carry still, beneath our chest,
The echoes of her soft caress.

And though the years may bend her frame,
And silver hair replace the flame,
She is, to us, both root and wing,
The reason why our hearts still sing.
For in her gaze, we see the skies—
The strength, the hope, the lullabies.
No poet's quill could ever say
The depth of love she gives each day.

So let the world with flowers bloom,
Let every heart dispel its gloom.
Let children speak and voices rise
To praise the soul behind our skies.
For Mother's Day is more than date—
It’s every breath we celebrate.
A hymn, a prayer, a whispered part
Of every beating human heart.

9."A Poem For Mom" – Champagne S. Baker

You are the sunlight in my day.
You are the moon I see far away.

You are the tree I lean upon.
You are the one that makes troubles be gone.

You are the one who taught me about life,
How not to fight and what is right.

You are the words inside my song.
You are my love, my life, my mom.

You are the one who cares for me.
You are the eyes that help me see.

You are the one who knows me best,
When it's time to have fun and time to rest.

You are the one who has helped me to dream.
You hear my heart and you hear my screams.

Afraid of life but looking for love.
I'm blessed, for God sent you from above.

You are my friend, my heart, and my soul.
You are the greatest friend I know.

You are the words inside my song.
You are my love, my life, my mom.

10."Especially For You, Mom" – Travis J. Harris

I'm writing this poem for you, Mom,
because I want this poem to be
my own special way of showing you
how much you mean to me.
I have so much to say,
and I don't think this poem will do,
but each word in between these lines
comes straight from my heart for you.
I know I haven't been a perfect son,
but you've taken things in stride,
and no matter how many problems I've had,
you've always been by my side.
I could talk to you about whatever I felt,
because I knew that you'd understand,
all that you asked from me in return
was to stand up and be a man.
If I asked you for some advice
you never have told me no,
and if I made a dumb mistake,
you've never said I told you so!
You've always treated me real special
and sometimes I don't understand why.
But when I think about how I've hurt you,
it makes me want to cry.
This is an apology for the mistakes I've made
and the conflicts that we've had,
for all the times I've hurt you
and for all the times I've made you mad.
I wrote this especially for you mom,
this is my cry out to you.
To let you know how sorry I am
and how much I really love you.

11."God's Special Creation" – Lenora McWhorter

The hand that rocks the cradle
also makes the house a home.
It is the prayers of the mother
that keeps the family strong.

Mother rises early in the morning
and bathes her day in prayer.
She talks to God about her family
and places them in His care.

Mother communicates her love
in a thousand different ways.
When there's a need, she is there,
whether it is night or day.

Mother seasons life with love
and gives so much of herself.
God placed in her the best He had
and made her unlike anyone else.

When challenges come our way
and when trials block our view,
Mother kneels down beside her bed
and prays the family through.

Mother is God's special creation.
She is a light shining in the dark,
illuminating the path for her family
and pointing them toward God.

12."When I Think About My Mum" – Abimbola T. Alabi

When I think about my mum,
I just can't help but smile;
The beauty of her loving heart,
The easy grace in her style.

She lovingly instilled in me,
Those values that made me strong,
And never stops being there,
My best friend since I was young.

When I think about my mum,
I just can't help but smile;
She's been an angel from the start,
Gentle, wise and versatile.

She always seems to know,
When things aren't going too well,
Even when I try to pretend,
Just a glance and she can tell.

When I think about my mum,
I just can't help but smile;
Her own troubles she'd set apart,
To go for me an extra mile.

She sometimes worries too much,
I guess it's just the way mums are.
If she doesn't, well, who will?
That's why she's my superstar.
