(a) Who were the members of Nimmi’s family before the arrival of her baby sister?

(b) How many members are there in Nimmi’s family now?

Answer.

(a) Nimmi’s family had five members before the arrival of her baby sister. They were Nimmi, her mother, father, grandmother and uncle.

(b) There are six members in Nimmi’s family now.

Let us talk

(a) How do you think the lives of Nimmi’s family members have changed after the arrival of the new baby? For example –

  • How will Nimmi spend her day now?
  • What new work will her mother do now?
  • There will be a change in the daily work of Nimmi’s father, grandmother and uncle with the arrival of the new baby. Can you tell how?

(b) Has a small brother or sister been born in your home or in any house in your neighbourhood?

  • How does it feel to have a new baby at home?
  • How have things changed at home with the new baby?

Answer.

(a) After the arrival of the new baby, daily work routine of all the members of Nimmi’s family has been changed.

For example:

  • Nimmi will spend her day now playing with her baby sister.
  • Her mother will now look after her new born baby along with Nimmi.
  • Nimmi’s father, grandmother and uncle will now have to give more time to the new baby. They will also have to help Nimmi’s mother in taking care of the baby and doing other household works.

(b) Yes, a baby was born to my aunt.

It feels very nice and cheerful to have a new baby at home.

All are busy playing with new baby and taking care of it.

Answer.

Youngest child in my family is my aunt’s baby.

(i) It was born 10 months ago.

(ii) It is a baby girl.

(iii) I am her cousin brother.

(iv) The baby was born in the hospital.

(v) The baby looks like her mother.

(vi) The colour of her hair is black.

(vii) The colour of her eyes is black.

(viii) Yes, she has two teeth in upper jaw and two teeth in lower jaw.

(ix) Besides milk, the baby is given light foods like khichdi, daliya, curd, mashed boiled potato and soft fruits like banana, orange and grapes.

(x) It is about 70 cm.

(xi) The baby sleeps about 13-14 hours a day.

(xii) It speaks some small words like mamma, papa and makes various other noises.

(xiii) The baby stays with her mother most if the time.

(xiv) Sick the picture of baby or draw with pencil.

1. What will change in Tsering’s family after his father’s transfer?

For example –

• Who from Tsering’s family will live with his father at the new place? Which school will Tsering go to now? Will he have new friends?

• Has anybody in your family moved to a new place because of work?

• What do you feel about this change?

Answer.

Tsering’s family members will have to live separate in two different cities.

For example:

  • Tsering and his mother will live with his father at the new place. Tsering will now go to a new school at that place. Yes, he will have new friends.
  • Yes, my uncle moved to a new place because of work.
  • I feel sad about this change because the family members have to part away and one has to start a new life at a new place which is very difficult.

2. Is there anyone in your class or school who has come to your school from another place? If so, talk to him or her.

(a) Where has she or he come from?

(b) What was his or her old school like?

(c) What does he or she find different here?

(d) Does he or she like the change?

Answer.

Yes, one of my class mates came to our school from another place.

(a) She has come from Agra.

(b) She said her old school was as beautiful as this school.

(c) She finds the teaching methods to be different from her old school.

(d) Yes, she likes this change.

Do you think that there will be any change in Nazli’s family after this wedding? What will change?

(a) Do you think there will be changes in the home from where the new bride has come? What kind of changes?

(b) Talk to your mother and aunts in the family. Ask them about where they lived before they got married.

(c) Who were the members in their families then?

(d) Has anybody in your family been married recently? Who?

Answer.

Yes, there will be some changes in Nazli’s family because a new member will come to their house after this wedding.

(a) Yes, there will be many changes in the home from where the new bride has come. Now, all her family members will miss her a lot. Also, they will have to do all those works which she used to do.

(b) They lived with their parents before marriage.

(c) Their parents, grandparents, their uncles, aunts with their children all lived together in their families then.

(d) Yes, my cousin sister’s married happened recently in our family.

(a) Different types of vegetables, sweet dishes, snacks are cooked in a wedding.

(b) The bride generally wears a lehnga-choli with lot of jewellery whereas the bridegroom wears a sherwani and pagri.

(c) Traditional as well as modern songs and dances are performed at weddings.

We saw changes taking place in the families of Nimmi, Tsering and Nazli because of different reasons.

Some of the reasons which cause changes in families are given below:

  • Birth of a baby in the family
  • Marriage of member of the family
  • Transfer of one of the members of the family to another city
  • One member leaves family for job or higher education
  • Death of a family member
