On Tuesday Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha passed the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2014 presented by HRD minister Smriti Irani.
The new University will be called as Mahatma Gandhi Central University and will be located in Motihari in East Champaran.
The bill also changed the name of the existing university to Central University of South Bihar University, as it is located in south of the river Ganga.
The statement of objects and reasons of the bill states that it seeks to set up a central university in Bihar. It was felt that the requirement of higher education was not being met by just one central university in the state.
HRD Minister Smriti Irani has also promised to fast-track the filling vacant faculty positions of central universities, including vice chancellors, adding that common people are also encouraged to express their views on government website.
