The premiere education centre in Kolkata, Jadavpur University is likely to begin a B-School which would award post graduate degrees to students from the 2015 academic session. A new law school is also on the cards which would be on the lines of the national law schools that are functioning all over the country. Now those candidates who had a dream of getting an MBA degree from a reputed government organization and those who couldn’t have made the cut through IIMs could get a chance to do the same from Jadavpur University.
The initiation for both these projects has already began and to make a broader framework of the b-school and law school JU has got in touch with institutions like IIM Calcutta, XLRI Jamshedpur, XIM Bhubaneswar and National University for Juridical Science (NUJS). The plan for introducing the B-school is immediate and is scheduled to begin from the very next academic session. The law school on the other hand would have to wait and could get functional only from the 2016 academic session.
The Vice chancellor of JU, Abhijit Chakraborty mentioned that though the university had earlier some management programmes running for students it didn’t had any full scale MBA programmes like IIMs do. Thus it is a plan to initiate a full-fledged two year management programme which would provide MBA degrees to students who are willing to take up management as their career option. He said, “ The University has arts, science and technology faculties but we always felt that management and law studies were two areas which were wanting here and which would make us complete”.
The National Instruments Laboratory campus just opposite the main Jadavpur Campus would house both the b-school and law school, which was lying vacant for quite a few years.
