After 157 years of mastering in the field of architecture by Sir JJ College of Architecture and generating scholars in the field, the Department of higher and technical education is planning to come up with another government architecture college in the state. The college is about to come due to huge demand among the students who want to get admission in government architecture colleges. The new college is planned to come up in the western suburbs beyond Andheri. A two member study group has been made to carry out a study about the feasibility of the campus.
There are almost 60 architecture colleges in the state but only one government college at present. There are two other colleges named Academy of Architecture Rachna Sansad in Mumbai and BKPS College of Architecture in Pune which are government aided, but not fully government colleges. According to a source, “In view of the rise in demand in architecture, the state is planning to set up its own college. But they need to carry out a feasibility study. The new college will be designed on the lines of JJ College.”
The two officials forming the group who would carry the study about feasibility of the new campus are Mr. SK Mahajan, Director of Directorate of Technical Education and Rajiv Mishra, Principal of Sir JJ College of Architecture.
The architecture colleges in the state don’t get assessed for quality and thus the government in planning to introduce grading system for these colleges. DTE organized a workshop on making this grading system functional by taking together representatives from all the colleges.
