1. What is Sky Wave Propagation?
Answer. Sky Wave Propagation is a method of transmitting radio waves over long distances by reflecting them off the ionosphere. The frequency range of this propagation ranges from 3 MHz to 30 MHz. It travels longer than ground waves, thus ensuring long-distance communications.
2. What are extrinsic and intrinsic semiconductors?
Answer. Intrinsic semiconductors are the purest form of semiconductors whereas extrinsic semiconductors are those where impurity is added to them. Extrinsic semiconductors are in their impure form. Intrinsic semiconductors possess low conductivity and have a narrow gap between their energy bands whereas extrinsic semiconductors have higher conductivity and greater gaps in between their energy bands.
3. Write down Einstein's photoelectric equation.
Answer. The Einstein's photoelectric equation is E=hf where E is the energy emitted, h is the Plank's constant and f is the frequency of light.
4. Write down deBroglie's relation and explain the terms therein.
Answer. The deBroglie's relation is related to the body's momentum with its wavelength. It is shown as
λ= h/p
where λ is deBroglie wavelength, h is the plank's constant, and p is the momentum of the moving body
5. What are the applications of microwaves?
Answer. The applications of microwaves are:
(i) Satellite communications, radar signals, and navigational applications
(ii) They are used in medical treatments
