IIMs are one of the most prestigious colleges and every CAT aspirant dreams of getting into one. But, not being able to make it to one of the IIMs is not the end of the world. There are many more prestigious institutes offering MBA/PGDM.
We here have bought a compiled list and a tad of information about each of them. This will help you in knowing where else can you go other then the most famous IIMs.
1. Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi:
FMS, South Campus, New Delhi was established in the year 1954 and has both part-time and full time MBA programmes along with other higher education programmes like doctoral programmes. FMS is very popular amongst the MBA aspirants as it not only as low course fee but at the same time it offers splendid placement opportunities, completely at par with the IIMs.
2. S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR), Mumbai:
S. P. Jain Institute of Management & Research (SPJIMR) was started in 1981. It has maintained the top position through out over the years. There were 1.36 offers per student for the 2014 batch placed. Visiting companies included biggies Amazon, Asian Paints, Axis Bank, Citibank, Colgate, HUL, Kraft, L’Oreal, Mahindra & Mahindra, Marico, Microsoft, P&G, TAS among others.
3. Xavier Labour Relations Institute(XLRI), Jamshedpur:
XLRI, Jamshedpur was incepted in 1949, being one of the oldest B-Schools in India. XLRI enjoys the popularity because of its flagship programme in Human Resource Management (HRM) but it has programmes in other specializations as well. It has maintained the 100% placement status.
4. Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi:
IIFT, New Delhi campus was inaugurated in 1963 by the Government of India as an autonomous organization. IIFT offers specialized programme in International Business; thus making it a very popular institute. It is one of the top tier institutes with specialized MBA Degree. IIFT has two functional campuses, one in New Delhi and one in Kolkata.
5. Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon:
MDI, Gurgaon was accredited as one of the first internationally recognized MBA institutes. MDI Gurgaon has had 100% placements like other institutes in the list. Companies like IBM, Tata Steel, Vodafone, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Airtel, Axis Bank, GE, Goldman Sachs, Redbull, and Procter & Gamble have visited the campus and offered placements to the students. It was established in 1973 and is located in Gurgaon, a commercial hub near the Indian capital of New Delhi.
6. Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai:
NMIMS was established in 1981. It is a recognized Management institute of the Mumbai University. NMIMS takes admission via its own entrance examination called NMAT. NMIMS is a multi disciplinary University with four campuses at Mumbai, Shirpur, Bengaluru & Hyderabad and nine constituent B- schools.
7. Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad:
IMT Ghaziabad was founded in the year 1980. It is a private Business school. IMT is a fully autonomous and offers several post graduate, doctorate and executive education programmes in management. In addition to its main academic programmes IMT also offers distance learning and collaborative programmes. IMT has four campuses but the most popular one is in Ghaziabad. IMT had 130 recruiters coming for the placements and highest domestic CTC was 23 lakhs.
8. Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), Mumbai:
JBIMS was named after noted industrialist and philanthropist, Jamnalal Bajaj and was founded in the year 1965. JBIMS offers full-time MBA programme. In addition to MMS, the institute offers full-time course of Masters in Finance (MSc Finance), part-time courses and a doctoral PhD programme. 95 companies participated in the placement process at JBIMS in 2014 and 26 lakhs was the highest package offered.
9. National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai:
NITIE was incepted in 1963 and started off as an Industrial Engineering institute, now offers full-time Post Graduate programs in Industrial Engineering,Industrial Management,Manufacturing Management and Industrial Safety And Environmental Management. It is renowned as one of the top 5 Indian schools for supply chain and IT management. What can be better than having a B-School with expertise in specific domain?
10. International Management Institute (IMI), New Delhi:
IMI, New Delhi was established in the year 1981 and was India's first corporate sponsored business school. Its other campuses are located in Kolkata and Bhubaneshwar. It is one of the seven B-schools in India to get accreditation from the international accreditation agency, AMBA. In all, 85 companies participated in Final placements at IMI New Delhi to recruit from a batch of 220 students (177 in PGDM and 43 in PGDHRM programme).
11. Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad:
ISB is one of the most reently founded out of the list we have compiled. It was founded in 2001. In 2008, ISB became the youngest institution to find a place in global MBA rankings when it was ranked 20. It rivals IIM A for the crown of the best Business School in India. The Indian School of Business (ISB) has two campuses, one in Hyderabad and a new campus in Mohali. A total of 350 companies contributed around 884 offers, as compared to 819 offers made last year.
These are some of the well known and famous institutes which are as or more famous than some of the IIMs making them a hot cake amongst MBA Aspirants. There are other colleges as well which are no less.
