UG Admission under DU’s SOL delayed as university awaits UGC nod

Jun 27, 2015 15:38 IST

Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL) admissions to various undergraduate courses have been hit by delay once again as the university is waiting for UGC’s nod to launch the process. On one hand DU has successfully completed registrations of its 54,000 regular UG seats in its various colleges but on the other SOL which enrolls over 1.4 lakh students is undergoing delay for the consecutive second year.

Generally the admission in SOL begins after a few days of the registration of regular UG course begins. It usually runs till late September. But this year the schedule has been altered twice till date. The process for application was supposed to begin on June 1, but it was further pushed to June 15 due to some reasons. Now, when that deadline is also long past, there is no indication on when exactly would the process start to undertake students who are willing to enroll themselves for this academic session.

According to the DU administration, the delay is caused not from their side but from the University Grants Commission’s Distance Education Board (DEB), which is not sending in the necessary directive to launch the SOL admission process.

According to SOL Director, CS Dubey, “UGC had last month asked all the open learning school universities to submit an affidavit to the board. We had submitted the details long before the deadline passed. So, the delay is not at our end. We are just waiting for a go-ahead from the UGC.”

According to officials application process for its B Com programme and three of the honors courses- English, Political Science and B Com would be made completely online this year. For BA programmes under SOL, the applications would be accepted both by online and offline measures.
