UGC comes with new guidelines, will allow only top 500 foreign universities to enter India

According to the new set of guidelines approved by University Grants Commission (UGC) on 2 June 2012, only top 500 foreign universities will be allowed to enter into agreement with their Indian counterparts for offering twinning programmes.

According to the new set of guidelines approved by University Grants Commission (UGC) the Indian varsities should have received the highest accreditation grade.

Apparently, it has been said that the foreign varsities entering into tie-ups with Indian partners should be ranked among the top 500 by the Times Higher Education World University Ranking or by Shanghai Jiaotong University of the top 500 universities, and if you thought it was it! Wait for the icing on the cake, the degrees will be awarded only by the Indian universities for their acceptability in the Indian market. Institutes failing to fall into the bracket would not only be penalized but also would result into the halt of grants.

Twinning courses are sought after by Indian students because the total cost is less in exchange for a foreign degree and international exposure. On the other hand, the foreign educator prefers adopting twinning mode to operate in India because they have least stakes and maximum income.
