The Union Public Service Commission will hold a Indian Police Service Limited Competitive Examination from 20 May 2012 for the purpose of filling vacancies in the Indian Police Service (IPS). The Examination will be held at the following Centres: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kolkata, and Nagpur.

- Opening date for submitting online application: 3 March 2012
- Closing date for submitting online application: 1 April 2012 till 11.59 pm
- Closing date for sending receipt of online application: 19 April 2012
- Tentative date for Written Examination: 20 May 2012
Eligibility Criteria for Indian Police Service Examination
Educational Qualification: The candidate must have completed 5 years of continuous and actual service as Deputy Superintendent of Police in States under State Police Service or Assistant Commandants in Central Para Military Forces (Central Reserve Police Service, Border Security Force, Indo Tibetan Border Police, Central Industrial Security Force and Sashastra Seema Bal) or Officers of the rank of Captain or Major or equivalent in the Armed Forces and should have an unblemished service record.
Age Limit (as on 1 August 2012): Maximum 35 years
Selection Procedure for Indian Police Service Examination: The Examination will comprise two components viz; Written Examination and Interview for Personality Test as given below.

Note 1: Total Marks for Written Examination and Interview will be 1000 marks.
Note 2*: Paper III is only qualifying in nature and the marks for Paper-III will not be counted for merit ranking.
Note 3: The objective type papers will be qualifying in nature for evaluating Descriptive Type Papers. However, marks obtained will be counted for merit ranking.
Note 4: In cases, where simultaneous evaluations of Papers III and IV/ V are resorted to for saving time, the Commission retains the discretion to treat the Papers IV and V of such candidates who do not attain the qualifying standards for Paper-III as "deemed to be not evaluated".
Application Fee: Application Fee for General and OBC category candidates is Rs 50 either by remitting the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI or by using Net banking facility of Associate bank of SBI or by using Visa/ Master Credit/ Debit Card. Female/ SC/ ST/ PH candidates are exempted from payment of Fee.
How to Apply for Indian Police Service Examination: Interested Candidates may apply Online by using the link http://www.upsconline.nic.in/ Candidates should ensure that all columns of the Online Application Form are filled in correctly. No correspondence will be entertained by the Commission from candidates to change any of the entries made in the application form. In case of NIL information, candidates are advised to clearly write NIL or ‘0' in the relevant column. No column should be left blank.
