Paridhi Verma (21 years), a visually challenged girl from IIM Lucknow has obtained campus placement despite of her 90% visual impairment due to macular degeneration. She has received successful placement offer from a micro-finance bank as a customer relationship executive and she considers it a good break for any graduating student to work with a bank.
Paridhi has confirmed that “With 10% vision, I may have to take a slightly different path than others. Macular degeneration is a very rare disease and occurs in one in seven lakh people. It is incurable and progressive in my case.” She mentioned that during her educational journey at the campus, she managed her education through readers and scribes in writing her exams. In addition, she also mentioned that “Normally, in an examination, one writes his/her own destiny. In my case, my destiny was in my writer’s hand. I consider myself lucky to get wholehearted support from well-wishers since childhood. God has been kind to me.”
Paridhi was the youngest candidate who got shortlisted by the IIMs at the age of 19 years. She is quite an enthusiast and also participated in various curriculum programmes of the institute. She also walked the ramp at IIM-L festival.
Paridhi discovered her visual impairment at the age of 5 years. She suffers with macular degeneration which is a very rare disease with no cure. But despite of all the odds, she did not stop herself from achieving the pinnacle and continued to pursue her dreams with full determination. Apart from educational achievements, she has also won under-18 state level football championship in Class 10. Alongside, she even learnt to play the guitar, and thereafter participated in bands to perform at the concerts.
